25 Motif Challenge Completion

These next 5 samples are the last of my first 25 motif challenge.  What a journey I have had, I have tried to learn some new techniques along the way. I have seen some lovely samples from other tatters on Sharon's 25 Motif Challenge Blog, thanks for sharing all your work.

My thanks go to Marilee Rockley on Craftsy for my introduction to shuttle tatting. I started her class a while ago and then started running before I could walk, so it is now time to go back to the class and complete it.

Sample 21

Elizabeth has updated her pattern.  I made this motif in New Zealand at the beginning of this year using Caron Collection thread on a small skein named Wildflowers in colour 043 Aurora, which is made in the USA.  I found this thread fluffs a little, but I think the colour makes the design look antique, and a little Victorian looking.

Sample 22

Sarah's Heart is designed by Teri Dusenbury and I bought this pattern as an e-book for my ipad and it was my first introduction to frontside/backside tatting.  (I became very confused when I started, but really liked the concept, very similar idea to Jan Stawasz's method, please correct me if that is not the case) I made this heart in Lizbeth thread no 10 col 154 Wildflower Garden. I like the neatness of frontside/backside tatting and try to do it on new projects.

Sample 23

Lene Bjorn's Third Day of December snowflake  above is from her book entitled 24 Snowflakes in Tatting. This particular design was made in Lizbeth thread no 40 colour 115 Springtime.  It was a nice design to tat, I finished it quite quickly (for me anyway as I am quite a slow tatter).

Sample 24

This clasp design is yet another motif by Jan Stawasz from his Tatted Treasures book, made in Chameleon embroidery thread  from South Africa.  I bought this thread in New Zealand in a beautiful craft shop called Ribbon Rose which sold everything for knitting, crochet, beads, embroidery, cross stitch etc. A shop you could spend all day in.  These come in small skeins and is a perle 12 thickness, the colour I used was Copper Kiss col no 151.

Sample 25

This is my last design of my first 25 Motif Challenge.  I'm guessing it won't be the last.  Might have a break and start again in the New Year.

Jan Stawasz designed this motif, and it is found in his Tatted Treasures Book.  Made in 40 Lizbeth thread col 115 Springtime. I just love the colours of Lizbeth threads.

I am now going to try to tat the big doily of Jan's which is in progress on In Tatters . I am hoping to start as soon as I get the pattern. I am planning to do this in a pale cream colour. My Polish friend Krystyna has obtained a copy for me from Poland and it is on its way.

25 Motif Challenge - (16 to 20)

Here is my next 5 samples for the 25 motif challenge.

#16

A beautiful design by Mary Konior called Black Magic this bookmark I made in Lizbeth no. 20 thread colour 164 River Glades and it is from her ook entitled Tatting in Visual Patterns. I like this design so much I think it is one to be made again in another colour in the future.

#17

This bookmark is a working progress and is based on the Basket Edge design - a vintage design from 1916. I have changed the stitch count to suit. This is made in Bright Turquoise no 344 Altin Basak thread no. 50.

#18

This is my progression from the previous pattern.  I have made both ends the same.  I made this in New Zealand when we were visiting my son.

I met a lovely lady called Megan, who ran a knitting group that I joined whilst in the country and was made most welcome. I have called this design Megan as a reminder of the lovely sessions I joined. This version is made in Lizbeth thread no. 20 called Wildflower Garden. I think this would look nice with a tail or two.

25 Motif Challenge # 6 - # 10

Here are my next 5 tatted items in the 25 Motif Challenge

The heart, flower and bottom left motif are designs from Jan Stawasz. The motif which is on the top left is from DS9 Designs for Sulky threads. Because these samples are very small I have put these 4 together as 1 item for the challenge.

Iris Niebach's Doily is taken from her book Tatted Doilies.  This was made in Lizbeth 40 thread and the colour was Spring Garden (124).

The next sample is made with two different threads.  The multi coloured thread I bought in New Zealand - it is a Chameleon embroidery thread made in South Africa the colour is Jacobean and it is a Perle no 12 thread (very nice to tat with and lovely colours). The other thread is DMC 3042 no 12 the colour is Antique Mauve. I bought thiw in New Zealand. The patternh is called Segnalibro Fiore E Foglia it is an Italian pattern by Edda Schneider and has a diagram which I followed.  Here is the link to the pattern.

Flowering Quatrain Bookmark designed by Joƫlle Paulson is made in Anchor Artistic in Cornflower Blue no. 20, I attached a butterfly pendant that I bought in
Hobbycraft.

Snowflake by Lene Bjorn found in her book called 24 Snowflakes in Tatting.  This particular snowflake is called the Second Day of December.  I made it in Altin Basak 338 which is a bright pink thread.

Hello Again - 25 Motif Challenge # 3, 4 and 5

I have been away from my blog for some time now.  A lot has happened since my last post.  We went to New Zealand to visit our son last Christmas, and we had a great time as usual. I did a lot of tatting whilst I was there, I tried some new threads as well.

When we returned we had a lot of problems, flooding from the roof, cars that wouldn't start, the telephones decided not to work, the freezer packed up.  To top it all we both caught a nasty virus and were poorly for a few weeks.  I sneezed and put my back and shoulder out and unable to even knit, crochet or do any tatting for a few more weeks.  All is better now.

Our youngest son got married in August, I made their cake and hopefully will post a picture of it soon.

Below is my 3rd sample for the 25 motif challenge, this bookmark is made in  J P Coats Mercer Crochet no 50 in beige. This thread was given to me by Emily, it was in her late grandmas sewing box.

I forgot to mention that my PC decided to play up and I have not been able to use it.  The problem has now been fixed (I hope) so can catch up posting the sampes.  I hope to spread them out a bit so as not to bore you.

The next sample a cross motif is by Mary Konior from her book a Pattern Book of Tatting. The cross is called Peter and Paul and I made it in Anchor Paisley No 18 colour 609

My 5th sample is a heart motif it is from the Learn to Tat book by Janette Baker. I made this heart in cream Anchor Clark and Co Paisley on a small skein no. 18.

Something Different

Just finished a crochet project for a friend's daughter. It was an old pattern by Twillies of Stamford. The original was made in Lyscordet or Lysbet thread. I made it in in Coats, Puppets Eldorado in white as I could no longer get the original threads. It took me several weeks to make. Hope you like it.
